As many of you know, the newest wordpress update 2.6.2 is out and it’s a security updgrade.  It seems like everytime I get the bugs worked out between my theme and the newest version of wordpress, they come out with another.

It’s a never ending battle.

I almost thought about just forgetting it and living with the 2.6 version I was currently running.  After the many hours I have spent designing and creating every little thing about this blog by hand (I don’t use widgets - it’s all hand coded), I didn’t want to risk messing it all up only to have to start all over again.

But since it was a security update, I decided to go ahead and tempt the Wordpress Gods.

Instead of downloading the newest version and installing it by hand (like I normally would do).  I used the Wordpress Automatice Upgrade Plugin.  It is the first time I’ve decided to try it and my heart was racing everytime I hit the “Next Step” button as I went through the upgrade process.

I fully expected it to crap out on me, and cause me to restore my backups and my themes folders.

Tick, Tick, Tick… I waited. As if a bomb would explode any minute. Then… It happened.  I quickly shut my eyes and said a quick little prayer.

As I opened them, there it was.  Right there on my screen, staring me in the face were the words:

Your version of wordpress has successfully upgraded.  I wasn’t in the clear yet.  I still had to click “Visit Site” to see if there were any visual errors, or problems with any of my web forms.

There were none!  I breathed a sigh of relief and realized, “I survived the dreaded upgrade process this time… but there will be many more.”

I hope to be ready for them when they come.

You can get the plugin I used here.

What hardships have you had to endure with upgrading your wordpress versions?
