What’s Your Average Browser Tab Count

I see it all the time.  People always talk about how their web browser crashed because they had 30+ tabs open at once.

I don’t have this problem, but that’s only because I hand-coded my own dashboard to handle everything I need to accomplish on the web.  Almost like a “virtual browser” which helps keep me from being tied to one computer.  I work in the cloud baby!

Anyways, on average how many tabs do you have open at once in your browser window?  I’d also love to hear why so many tabs are left open.  Is it things you plan on getting back to?

I generally keep 20+ tabs open, often in multiple browsers. This is generally for two different reasons. I have either finished reading the information and want to reference back to it (but it’s not important enough to actually file away somewhere) or have not yet read it. Since I don’t have a net connection at home, open tabs allows me to read later when I’m offline, or have it ready when I do have a few moments to sit down and read.

I keep (1)my iGoogle page open, (2)my email open, (3)my work website, (4)sometimes Google Calendar, and more times that not (5)Facebook. Then I open other sites as I need them but they don’t stay open long. Such as this site and my daughter-in-laws site and other blogs I read. I close them as soon I finish reading them.

Two browser windows with 2 – 5 tabs each. The second always has Google reader up, the first is flexible.

I usually have just a few tabs open, one of them always being Gmail. However, when I’m reading through a blog, sports, or news site, I routinely open links to interesting posts in new tabs. Then I can work through the tabs, closing them as I read the post, and return to the main site tab to keep browsing or move on to another site.

If I don’t have time to read a particular post, I tag it with the Read It Later extension (http://readitlaterlist.com/), close the tab, and move on knowing that it has been added to my list of sites to read when I have more time!

It seems like many could benefit from that plugin!

I like to keep as many of my open pages in the same browser. I only opt for a new window when I could no longer navigate the tabs easily because they have become small enough as to lose the text titles. Generally, I try to keep only up to 18 tabs on one window.

When I do a google search, I open multiple tabs from that search simultaneously. The tabs keeps me on track, because sometimes a page can become so interesting that I begin to lose myself and go deeper into it, branching out, and forgeting my initial purpose. When I click on the other tabs, it’s like, uh…how long had I been out?

I usually keep 2-5 tab open on an average. After reading a particular post i close it and go to the main page browsing or close and move to another site.
