Landing page needs to be clean and neat. Noone cares about your partners or your "mad design skills" - they just want to get the information they came to the site for. And clean landing page greatly helps with that.

I have noticed very small sized pictures on a website that sells clothes, and on other that sells cables.

I wanted to see detailed version of these but the resolution was low. I didn't understand so far why they did not make the resolution high. So it is now clear. It does not distract the visitor interested in buying the product into browsing interesting pictures.

Thanks for posting this great information! I think many people don't even consider these things when they ponder why their conversion rates have not increased. Number one struck a chord with me in particular - people want to find exactly what they are looking for as soon as they click and sending them to your home page just causes confusion. Bottom line is, give the people what they want as soon as they want it, and they will reward you.

On load time, your buyer targeting can affect this. For some products and services you might need something on the page that would be painfully slow for a dial-up user. But, in general, the faster the load time the better off you'll be.

On your last point, you kind of have to work both aspects. Some buyers will see additional info as violating your second point. They want to buy now and skip the fluff. Others will want to seek more info about you and your product before they buy. You have to have a good balance between the two.

Also, going back to your second point, one annoyance I run into a lot are audio and video pitches that start on load. Unless I'm extremely interested in a product that earns an instant back button from me.
