Successful Blogging Through A Little Black Book

Building ConnectionsEveryone wants to be rich.

Although most people think being rich is about having money, rich is a description for everything but money.

Rich relationships lead to much more than money.  They lead to success, fulfillment, and wealth.

Jeffrey Gitomer said this in his book, “Little Black Book of Connections”, and I tend to agree with him on all levels.  Most especially when it comes to success through blogging.

Successful Connections Equals Successful Blogging

If you’ll take a look at some of the most successful bloggers, (i.e. Jeremy Shoemaker, Darren Rowse, Dooce, John Chow) you’ll notice they all share one thing in common (beside a butt-load of money).  They all have connections with  a lot of people, and not just any people, the right people.

I could visit a new bar every night in cities all across America and I could make friends with millions of people, but how many of those would actually be the kind of connections that would help me to become successful?  Maybe 1 or 2 if I’m lucky.

“Great connections aren’t about what someone can do for you, it’s about what you can do for someone.”

If you want to be successful with your blog, or anything at all, you have to start connecting.  But don’t expect any favors from anyone unless you’re willing to give them something first.  Great connections aren’t about what someone can do for you, it’s about what you can do for someone.

That’s it.  That’s the secret to becoming successful in blogging.  Work your butt off to help others in any way you can, and in turn they will talk about you, they will tell the world what you’ve done for them, and they’ll remember you when one of their friends needs the same help.  It’s not about how many phone numbers you can collect in your “Little Black Book”, but how many “Little Black Books” have your phone number in them.

The Little Black Book

“I’ve been networking with someone I knew as a kid.  My imaginary friend got me an imaginary interview at an imaginary company.”

If this sounds like you right now and you plan on being successful with your blog, then it’s time to take a step back and re-assess your strategy.

If you don’t already have it, get Jeffrey’s book and start reading.  In it he outlines 6 1/2 assets for networking your way to RICH relationships, and every single asset runs parallel with the business of blogging.

Quick Quiz

Jeffrey offers a quick quiz to help you get into the mindset of what powerful connection tools you need to succeed.

If I challenge you to list your top ten most powerful connections, and your top ten most personal connections, could you write phone numbers next to the name from memory?  I’ll bet any amount of money you could not.  I would bet even more money that it’s more likely you remember their email addresses than their phone numbers.

In today’s world of connections, a cell phone number and an email address are more powerful than a business phone number and a street address.

I bet Jeremy, John, and Darren all have each other’s cell phone numbers.  I’m even willing to bet they have the personal numbers of other major players in the industry like Guy Kawasaki.

Are you making good personal connections?  Do you have the personal contact info of other successful players in your industry?

I understand the importance of connecting to people to become successful or rich in anything in life. And thank you for pointing this out in your article.

What I don’t understand is how to start, somehow I feel I am lost somewhere and not able to convince myself to do that. Do I need to change or reshift my paradigms?
