I carry around my composition notebook filled with ideas and goals for my blog, and that seems to help in retaining my creativity..

For anyone not familiar with the SMART goal setting process I would certainly recommend it as a way to get some structure around your goal setting process.

SMART goals force you to say exactly what you are going to do, how you will do it, and by when…keeps you from setting nebulous goals such as “I want to grow my blog”.

you’ve touched on some good points. in relation to your post, my problem is relying on trying to remember the goals i set for myself. We all should write it down on a notepad, or sticky not somehwere that we’ll see everyday and try to progress towards it.

Mr Sanders, Great post! I would add that the goals must be measurable. If you can measure them to determine success then you need to redo it. Goals also need to focus on the end in mind or the outcome/results.

It seems a lack of time due to multiple areas of focus is probably the major factor that affect us from being successful. I guess we all need to focus on one things and do it well. @Cyk, its not hard to find a niche. You just need to expand your research a bit more and use your own creative nature to find a niche. Many are making a great living from their Niche website every month. I agree so many people are doing it but there are still many areas under served by various mainstream businesses. It your goal to find it. A great place to identify trends is amazon.com, forums, magazines, etc

Great post, making goal for myself helps my stay focus and great for discipline.

It is challenging to find my rhythm blogging, as I do run my own business and am a single parent. I find that I function better with structure and creating list help. Of course, there are moments of creativity that you should follow. Those are the moments that can take you to the next level.

Okay, my first goal is to jump start my traffic back up to 6,000 unique visitors a month (reliably) within the next 3 months. I’m not putting a top on that, because I don’t want to limit myself. From there, I’d like to see it steadily increase.

In three months, it’d also be great if I were tripling the income I get from my blog. In one year, I would love to be able to make $1,500 a month. Minimum. That’s not my top out, that’s my minimum.

I’d love to supplement our income more and to be able to get some things paid off and spend more time with my daughter and husband vacationing and relaxing rather than the typical 8-5 drone.

There you go. Those are my goals.
