I spend as much time on forums as I do on my blog. Not only do I get to learn more for myself, I get to help others. Oh, all while building links back to my blog with my signature.

  • What’s Your Average Browser Tab Count
I generally keep 20+ tabs open, often in multiple browsers. This is generally for two different reasons. I have either finished reading the information and want to reference back to it (but it’s not important enough to actually file away somewhere) or have not yet read it. Since I don’t have a net connection at home, open tabs allows me to read later when I’m offline, or have it ready when I do have a few moments to sit down and read.
  • Does The Post Date Affect Your Opinion Of The Content?
I generally don’t care about the date as long as the information seems sound and pertinent to my situation. However, before I spread the info about I will often check the date to see how likely it is that others are already aware of it (ie: I’m just now getting into GTD, so I don’t need to gush about it to others).
  • New Baby Girl Born On Star Wars Day
    Congratulations!
A friend of mine will be quite jealous! Twice now his kids have missed Star Wars day by a matter of a week or two.
  • To Be A Successful Blogger Act Like One
I fell into this very trap just a couple of days ago. “I’m not big enough to hold a contest.” Of course, the point of the contest would be to draw in readers while also making the current ones more active. So I was missing out on half of the goal, a goal that I set!

It isn’t the right time for me to have a contest, as I am currently working on some other projects for my blog (getting it dressed as I talk the talk). However, I will have one in the future, no matter how “small” I am at the time. My goals are laid out, now I just have to keep working towards them.

  • The Last 26 Days Of Building A Successful Blog
I am planning a give-away/contest in the near future, so that post came in quite handy for me.

As I am preparing to shift my blog’s focus slightly, I found the two Branding Your Blog for Success posts very beneficial. I have bookmarked the second one so that I can return to it when I next re-design my theme.

Haven’t heard of most of those forums. Seems I got to get on them more then, eh?

    Another great post, Steven.

I have been member of the DP forum you listed at #8. But I wasn’t very active there. I didn’t realize the importance of forum participation until recently when I started checking statistics for my blogs ( http://makeitf.blogspot.com ).

Of course this involves a lot of work on our part. That is what concerns me most. How am I going to manage time, participating on forums, commenting on others’ blogs and writing to my own blog?

You need to also write an article on the typical day a simple blogger. Thanks for this article.

To successfuly promote your site on forums you need to spend a lot of time on there. If you go anywhere and start your career with advertising yourself you won’t last long before getting banned/all your posts deleted.

@Dieta You’re correct. When I mentioned joining forums, I didn’t mean do it to simply advertise your blog. I meant that you need to participate, without expecting it to generate traffic for you. The best thing to do is include a simple text link in your signature that links back to your blog and leave it at that.

If someone you’re talking with or helping in some way likes you enough to want to visit your blog, they will have a way in your signature. Should they choose. Choose being the key word.

You can use the signature in forum to build backlinks and get traffic.
