For at least the past week, both John from JohnChow.com, and Darren from ProBlogger.net have been using a new function of aweber to make a Lightbox Newsletter opt-in form popup.
They’ve seen alot of positive response from using it and have also seen gains of at least 4 times the number of previous subscribers. I’m not a big fan of popups because they’re very instrusive, but this one seems to have a setting so it only displays once for each visitor, and never again, unless that visitor deletes their browser cookies.
You have probably noticed a similar popup on my blog now, but it’s not from Aweber.
Aweber is expensive to join (it has alot of functionality – but it’s still expensive), and most bloggers simply do not have the money to spend on using it.
My goal is to help you all out by finding FREE plugins and resources to do the same thing other costly methods provide. And once again, I have found a good, FREE, alternative.
Maxblogpress has a plugin they call their “Unblockable Popup“. It functions in exactly the same way as Aweber’s costly alternative. The only downside, it has a link to Maxblogpress, which can be removed, but only if you’re willing to pay a little money to remove it (which is still cheaper than Aweber).
This is straight from Maxblogpress:
With this new and FREE WordPress plugin you can grab your visitor’s attention instantly!
Instant Benefits:
- More blog subscribers
- More RSS feeds subscriptions
- Direct people to special offers
- Provide effective updates
- Increase sales
- Increase Leads
Get the Free “Unblockable Popup” here.
Let me know what you think of the plugin with a comment.

Boy, I *LOVE* MaxBlogPress. I have tried all of their plugins, and most are in my regular rotation. I think my favorite is their favicon plugin.

Nice alternative Steven. I do believe AWeber is still the best choice for those building a list. I believe it starts as low as twenty a month but I also know that many bloggers are fine with just their RSS feeds. It’s also nice to have a free resource available for those that want to promote something other than their newsletter. Perhaps someone might want to use it to direct traffic to a particular section or even to welcome new visitors and encourage them to comment. Nice find. Thanks for sharing.
