Exciting Wordpress Plugins From Skullbit

For those of you new to my blog, I wrote a couple of posts some time ago talking about my love for the Mint statistics program, as well as ways to secure your wordpress blog.

Minty Fresh

Even with my love for Mint, I’ve never thought to look for a wordpress plugin so I don’t have to type another url to access my stats.

Today is my lucky day. That little wordpress plugin rss feed on my blog admin panel had a plugin called Minty Fresh, so I’d thought I’d check it out. Boy am I glad I did!

The Minty Fresh wordpress plugin from skullbit.com allows me to integrate my mint install directly into my wordpress admin section. I can set it up to open a new window when I click the tab, or I can set it up to integrate into the page via iFrames.

Now I can view my stats in a much easier fashion.

Stealth Login

Skullbit.com has alot of great plugins, but another the caught my eye was the Stealth Login plugin. This goes right along with my post about increasing security on your blog.

Here’s what the plugin does, quoted directly from skullbit.com:

This plugin allows you to create custom URLs for logging in, logging out and registering for your WordPress blog. Instead of advertising your login url on your homepage, you can create a url of your choice that can be easier to remember than wp-login.php, for example you could set your login url to http://www.myblog.com/login for an easy way to login to your website.

You could also enable “Stealth Mode” which will prevent users from being able to access ‘wp-login.php’ directly. You can then set your login url to something more cryptic. This won’t secure your website,
but if someone does manage to crack your password, it can make it difficult for them to find where to actually login. This also prevents any bots that are used for malicious intents from accessing your wp-login.php file and attempting to break in.

These are both great plugins and I highly recommend using them, especially if you have an install of mint on your web server.
