<description>I don&#039;t really build most of my blogs for returning readers, ie the people who don&#039;t click on ads. I design for search engine visitors and make advertising the star of the show. Thus the first impression is different because it&#039;s designed for a different purpose than gaining readership, it&#039;s designed to make money.

I like your ideas on content and landing pages. Along that line, I&#039;ve been toying around with plugins like &quot;who sees ads&quot; so that on blogs that get both readers and search engine visitors I could vary the monetization method or just leave it out almost entirely for subscribers.

		<description>Ho Steven! Great post! :)

I launched my blog this week and can really vouch for the tip about having good content. I had two posts that I literally spent days working on. I scoured the net for case studies and created an article I felt people could use.

I was rewarded with a significant about a traffic for a blogger with no profile. It really made me happy - but reinforced my view that you need quality content.

If a post isn&#039;t up to my high standards, I just use the Simply Exclude plugin so its excluded from peoples RSS feeds and the front page. That way people can still find good information if they hunt for it, but it doesn&#039;t detract from the first imprression I&#039;m trying to make.

Have a good day, mate! :)

		<description>Steven,

I&#039;m always impressed by your style and the variety of topics here. It seems that I never know what you&#039;re going to come up with next.

Your writing style is active and engaging and I think that makes for a great first impression as well.

George

<description>A first impression is so important. I hate to see blogs that have the default wordpress theme, it lacks imigination, and makes me imediatly dislike the writer.

If after at least 6 posts you have not tried to play with your blogs structure a little, you are going to loose readers.

It really doesn&#039;t take much changing, or imigination, there are hundreds of easily custimisable themes availabe from wordpress.
