When I first glanced at one of the recent post topics over at johnchow.com I thought to myself, “Why would someone write ‘Three Reasons Why You Should Network in Prison?’”
Then I realized, it wasn’t actually in prison at all.
But I do wonder what kind of pointers a post with that title would contain, or if someone would even create a post about that particular topic. Seems like it’d be fun to read, never-the-less.
In regards to John’s real topic, he is absolutely right (but I don’t have to tell him that). Networking in person is so much better and builds better and longer lasting friendships, as well as helping to ensure other’s are more apt to remembering you.
Networking in person with someone, especially someone that is in the same career or field as you, is also an outstanding way to help boost your motivation. We all tend to lose momentum while working towards our goals occasionally, and it’s always good to have someone in your network that lives in the same town, or even a town or two over.
Meeting up with them for lunch or to hang out at the bowling alley and talking about your plans and ideas may just be the thing to help re-motivate you.
Never underestimate the power of networking in person.
How has it helped you in your personal and career goals?

Speaking of networking in prison…well, there was this one time…. Err…nevermind.
Anyways, I agree. Networking in person may be great – unless you’re a certain degree of ugly or super annoying, in which case I don’t think it’d serve you quite as well as you imagined.
Ashleys last blog post..Happy LABOR Day
You got my attention with the title. Good one! Ideas just poured in on how to reach out and help people who probably never thought they could be their own boss. I will start with the EDD though.
Great post.
sure, networking with people for our life now. We cannot work and stay alone all the time.
