2 Ways To Massively Increase Blog Traffic

Alltop BlogI wrote a post some time ago that listed 8 daily tasks to increase blog traffic, and while they work very well, there are times when you hit a plateau of visitors and no matter what you do, you can’t seem to generate a decent increase in traffic.

It can be very frustrating, and I caught myself hitting that plateau only a few days ago. I sat for hours trying to figure out some way to drive more traffic to my blog, and then it hit me.

As I scanned alltop for something interesting to read, two ideas found their way into my mind that I had never thought of before.

Increase Traffic Through Twitter

This is somewhat of an old idea, but with a little twist.

We all know that a giant increase of twitter followers often-times leads to an increase in blog visitors of the same magnitude.  And after the initial visit, those same new followers stand ready; waiting for you to craft your next blog post so they can visit yet again.

Now the question (and the epiphany) here is in how you generate such a massive list of new twitter followers.  And that answer lies within Alltop.

Alltop has a section called Twitterati which lists all of the well-connected influential twitter users.  So doesn’t it make sense that if you can get these users to follow you, others will as well?

If you answered yes, then you are very correct.

I experimented by simply following about 15-20 of these top twitter users right before I went to bed one night, and when I awoke the following morning, my twitter followers count had increased by 100.  Only to again increase by 50 by the very next day.  And each of these new followers visited my blog to “check me out” which gave me a large increase in visitors and new subscribers as well.

Increase Traffic Directly

Increasing traffic directly isn’t really about doing it directly.  It’s about harnessing the power of Alltop as well.  And in almost the exact same fashion as the previous method.

If you want to see a giant increase in blog visitors, then do the following:

  1. Visit Alltop.com
  2. Choose a category that covers your specific blog niche.
  3. Visit the newest post for every blog listed in that niche directory.
  4. Leave a decent comment (something besides “That’s Awesome! Great Post!”).

Doing this will generate a flood of traffic, and it will be targeted towards people already interested in reading your blog topic.  If you have great content, this could lead to a very large increase in RSS subscribers as well.

This method of traffic generation works at it’s very best if you’re one of the first 10-15 commentators on each blog post.  Doing it for a couple days in a row could benefit you greatly as well.

What creative and crafty ways have you found to increase your blog’s traffic?

That a good idea. I never use twiterr before. Many people talk about it.

I’ll have to give AllTop a look. I’ve been rather disappointed with Twitter so far given the rather dismal signal to noise ratio. The people I’ve followed so far have mostly been people flogging affiliate offers, people reveal TMI about their private life or pranksters redirecting to a Rick Ghastly video.

I appreciate the twitter tips. You always have excellent tips on your blog. I must agree with Frank’s comments about twitter. I like the idea, but I feel I am just loaded up with ads from followers or people I am following :) . Ah well! I think the noise will clear eventually.

I know it’s taken me awhile to comment, but I just had to come back to this topic. I recently joined Twitter and it has helped give me a significant boost in traffic. I followed your advice about the Twitterati and received my highest day of traffic ever!

I’m working on the second piece of advice but always seem to want to comment on blog posts that are a few days old and have lots of comments already. *sigh* Guess I need to work on my timing.
